Plus, when you buy through us you have the option of fully finished, ready-to-hang exterior doors, or unfinished doors waiting for you to add your personal touch before installation.
Entry doors can be constructed from a range of different materials, so your first decision will be which type you want. They all have different benefits and drawbacks, and no single material will suit everybody. Here's a quick summary:
Accoya timber is considered the leading long life wood, making it an exceptional option for front or back doors, particularly when it comes to British weather.
Its durability comes from modifying timber in such a way as to make it much stronger and resilient without impacting the overall aesthetic.
Accoya makes for an incredibly appealing exterior, while also considering the environment, as it is made from a fast-growing pine that is sustainably forested.
Engineered timber doors consist of numerous layers of timber combined together in various directions, before having a surface material and lipping applied.
This process makes engineered doors extremely robust. It also increases thermal efficiency.
At Express Doors Direct, we stock hardwood, hemlock and oak engineered doors.
GRP, or glass-reinforced polyester composite front doors are a great option because they are lightweight and extremely easy to maintain.
You won't have to worry about your composite front door bowing, cracking, fading, flaking, peeling, splitting, twisting or warping.
The most maintenance you'll likely have to worry about with a composite door is occasionally running a cloth over it to keep it looking pristine.
If you're looking for something a little different in a new door, you might consider Tricoya. Just as with engineered doors, these have been tweaked a little for improved performance.
They consist of MDF (medium-density fibreboard) and are reinforced to make them thermally efficient and secure.
These are available in a range of colours and styles, you could opt for a Tricoya with a window panel if you're interested in letting natural light flood through into your home.
Pine doors are an incredibly popular choice for front and back doors. They are strong yet inexpensive and can naturally change hue over time, giving a unique character to your home's exterior.
These are an excellent option if you want a natural-looking front door, as you'll be able to see the knots in the wood, making every door a unique purchase.
Composite doors are made using another modern method, blending a range of different materials under high heat and high-pressure conditions.
Composite doors are a popular choice because of the strength and enhanced security they bring. They also offer impressive energy efficiency due to the density of the materials. A secure composite front door is a top of the range, low maintenance product that will last for years.
They are often manufactured to mimic the appearance of real timber, with a glossy grain effect that adds depth to their visual appeal.

When buying a new entrance door many people will feel the lure of a glazed door. As well as looking stylish, installing new doors with glazing will maximise the natural light getting into your entranceway. This can be important if your hallway is small or doesn't have a window. Whilst we don't stock single leaf uPVC doors, we do offer plenty of glazed external doors with uPVC frames so check out our french and bifold styles.
In the past, choosing a glazed external door would mean sacrificing the performance of the door. If you wanted a beautiful glazed panel, stained with colour and punctuated with lead, you would have to accept rattling around the panes. Glass panels and energy efficiency were mutually exclusive.
These days, modern manufacturing methods such as composite doors and double or triple glazing mean you can welcome sunlight into your home with glass in your front door without seeing a hike in your heating bills.
Some may be concerned that having glass in either front or back doors could compromise the safety and security of your home.
But picking a new front door with panels of glazing in it won't necessarily make it less secure. Most modern external doors use toughened glass for glazing, which is safer than traditional glass. For example, when broken, it will shatter into tiny pieces rather than jagged shards.
A lot of exterior doors even use laminated glass. This type of glazing is more secure for use in entrance doors and windows. And after the installation of effective locks, a modern glazed door will be just as secure as a solid door. It doesn't have to be a choice of style over safety.
It is impossible to say definitively which front door is best. For many people, the traditional good looks of hardwood external doors will be the final finishing touch to their home. For others, the security and stability of composite doors are the perfect fit for their property.
The best front or back door style for you will depend on your exact specifications and we are more than happy to help with this. Our great value range offers something for everyone, no matter your budget. Find your perfect replacement front door today.
